National Gallery was opened recently. It is huge with lots of art works. We were there for couple of hours and decided to have lunch at National Kitchen by Violet Oon. We love Peranakan food and we were not disappointed. The deco of the restaurant is very pretty and classy. Staff are very friendly and service was excellent.
We ordered Fish Head Curry $35, Eurasian Beef Brisket Semor ($24), Chap Chye $15, Nasi Lemak Rice $2, Jasmine Rice $1 and Pineapple Upside Down Cake $12.
Portion is not big in case you are wondering. Good for 2-3 people. Chap Chye and Beef Briskets were served first and they were warm, not hot. Fish head Curry took a while, but was worth the wait. I love the curry sauce which has this sour taste that I like. I felt it would be great if they have added some lady fingers. Only eggplants were added.
The Chap Chye was full of flavour, absoultely no fault about it. We loved the tender beef too, just wish the portion could be slightly bigger. Nasi Lemak Rice is a must have in my opinion. It is so fragant and cooked to perfection.
The Pineapple Upside Down cake was not bad. The sponge was very light and the butterscotch sauce went well with the cake. We will be back !
